Happy New Year everybody! We hope this year will bring a lot of great and unforgettable moments to us all.

January, February and March are great months for escaping your daily routines and work stress to our tranquil town of Frigiliana. There are so many things you can enjoy in nature and elsewhere with low season prices. From snowy peaks of Sierra Nevada to Europe’s only coffee plantation in Costa Tropical. From hikes in Tejeda, Alhama and Almijara mountains to Mediterranean cuisine on the beach front chiringuitos.

There has been some extreme weather in Costa del Sol, but to be honest with you, the extremes never reached us in Frigiliana or Nerja. I guess we are so close to Costa Tropical and Sierra Nevada that we seem to avoid the worst the weather has to offer, which is great!

The Coffee farm is truly an experience. Addition to the coffee plants the owner takes you to a tour through several exotic fruit trees that he never thought of having a chance to survive here in Spain. Costa Tropical is truly tropical and it starts basically from here towards east. His funny and vivid stories about his past were amazing and you could really sense the history present there. We absolutely recommend a visit to Herradura Coffee Farm for everyone!

Hiking is a big thing here now. The mountains around Frigiliana offer beautiful and interesting routes to discover and it is not rare that you meet up with the Axarquian Ibex on any of the beautiful hiking routes. You can challenge yourself by choosing a bit more difficult hike or just settle for an easier one, both will definitely make you feel good and energized. If you don´t want to go too far to the wilderness, you can rent a bike, regular or electric, to admire the breathtaking views from the serpentine roads that are endless around Axarquia.

And whenever you’re done with the hike or your other activities, you’ll be hungry. The numerous beach restaurants, chiringuitos, will surely satisfy your appetite. The winds can be chilly in the winter, but proper chiringuitos will have cover for that and they’ll offer a pleasant summerlike and cozy place for a meal. Fish or seafood is of course recommended, but all of them have also a selection for the meat lovers on their menu.

It has been great to chat with you again, until next time, with love, Maarit & Hannu
