Sweet September is here, and you can still enjoy all summer activities, but also add some new ones that aren’t so much fun in the summer. One is shopping! Ok, some also like it in the summer…but September is the last summer month that all stores are open also on Sundays. At mid-September schools have already started and many of the clothing stores bring on the winter gear. Now you have the best sale prices on what is left of the summer clothes, and it is not so crowded at the malls and shopping centers.
In this blog post we will focus on major shopping that is done in big shopping malls and centers. Boutique shopping is also fun, but you can do it in so many places, and you don’t necessarily need a special mindset to do that, so we’ll leave it out of here.

Let’s start with the closest one to La Perla de Frigiliana, El Ingenio Mall in Velez-Malaga. https://www.elingenio.es/

That is about 20 minutes by car from here and you will find about 80 different shops from there. There is also a food court with a variety of restaurants, so you can spend a heavy shopping day there. In the summer you can combine shopping with waterpark, since Aquavelis water park is just on the opposite side of the street. https://www.aquavelis.es/

Just a little bit further towards west, you’ll arrive at Malaga. Malaga old town pedestrian streets offer you an excellent shopping environment for whatever you need. Little off the old town there is a large El Corte Ingles, if you prefer department stores to street shopping.
Despite shopping, there are numerous nice sights at Malaga old town. Definitely recommended.
A bit further next to the Malaga International Airport, there is huge shopping area called Plaza Mayor. https://www.plazamayor.es/en/

It is an “outlet park” at least for designer fashion. There are basically three areas and a huge food court and a cinema in the middle. One of the areas is called Mc Arthur Glen designer outlet and there you can find all the high-end fashion products with outlet prizing. The two other areas have a huge variety of mainstream brand shops from sports gear to fashion and home decoration. One good thing about this shopping area is that there is direct one stop train access to the airport. If you have a later flight and want to shop before you go, this is your option!

If you haven’t found what you were looking for from these places, there are two more to choose from. Both are little over hours’ drive from us. If you are on your way to Granada to see sights, or just want to do heavy shopping, Sierra Nevada Mall is a place for you. https://nevada.shopping/
There are over 280 shops and to our experience, it is very clean, easygoing and it doesn’t feel crowded because it is so big.
Another option is to head towards Marbella and stop at La Cañada shopping mall. It is about the same size as Nevada shopping mall, with about the same services, but it is a bit dated compared to Nevada shopping mall. https://lacanadashopping.com/

There is still time and some availability at La Perla de Frigiliana to make a quick sun and shop getaway!
Until next time, with love, Maarit & Hannu
