Summer is here! Or it has been already over a month if you look at the temperatures we have had for the past month and a half. In the last blog post the focus was on flowers and the beauty of nature in the springtime, this time, since it is summer, let’s focus on the beaches around here. We picked a few different ones that represent the variety of beach types that you find from here.

Let’s start with maybe the most famous one that was also named among the 50 best beaches in Spain by Condé Nast Traveler magazine. That is Playa de la Calahonda in Nerja, situated just next to the Balcon de Europe.

It is a small old fishermen’s beach that has its unique characteristics with one remaining fisherman’s house and steep rock walls that conceal corridors in small hidden beaches. There is a restaurant being built at the beach, so it will be even better once that is finished.
Just on the opposite side of the Balcon de Europe is another great beach called Playa el Salon. It is a bit larger beach but still very authentic in style, similar to Calahonda. This beach also hosts the annual Fiesta Blanca in August that is definitely worth participating in. More on the Fiesta Blanca at https://esnerja.com/fiestas/fiesta-blanca/.
Burriana Beach to some is the only real beach in Nerja. That is by far the largest and has the most activities and restaurants in the area. Whether you want to go kayaking in Maro waterfalls, scuba diving, parasailing, SUP boarding or anything else, this is the beach to be. It is located at the eastern side of Nerja and represents a real beach destination compared to the old town Nerja beaches.

One more beach worth mentioning in Nerja is the Torrecilla Beach on the western side of the town. It is a mid-size Nerja beach and offers two seaside restaurants.

If you are not into textile beaches there are two alternatives for you close by. One towards East is called Cantarriján Beach, and it is about 15-20 minutes’ drive along the N340 coastal road in the direction of Almeria. During the summer months, you need to park in the car park directly on the N340 road and take the minibus down to the beach. The minibus costs a few euros, but the trip is truly worth it. The beach is a bit rocky, but the scenery is nice and there are two nice restaurants there. This beach is a mixture of textile and non-textile bathers, so if you are not fine with that, the next option is for you.
Towards Malaga in Torre del Mar you can find Naturist Campsite Almanat. One of the most popular naturist centers in southern Spain. In connection to the campsite there is a very large naturist beach offering two restaurants and a peaceful beach with no textiles. Parking next to the campsite costs 5 euros, but it is secure and convenient for the beach.
